prelims is an umbrella organisation for companies working in the international book trade who are concerned that the books and books-plus products that they sell are ethically produced.
The companies involved in prelims work to promote and implement a common, internationally-recognised social accountability standard, which they themselves and their suppliers must adhere to. To find out more about who we are, what we stand for, and how we are working to set international standards for ethical book production, please click here.
The standard we are adopting covers areas including working conditions, health and safety issues, adequate remuneration, working hours, and the prohibition of the use of child or forced labour. Called the CARE Process, it is a standard used by the global toy industry and is managed by their industry body, the International Council of Toy Industries (ICTI). For more information about social accountability and for details of the CARE standard and how it is audited, please consult our faqs & links section.
We are keen to spread news about our work. If you are a book manufacturer, please visit our supplier info area to find out how to register with prelims and begin the process of accreditation. If you are a visitor to our website and would like to contact us please go to the joining us page.
